For what feels like probably the first time in my life, I made a plan to not have a plan. As many of you may know, I’m a pretty organized person and like to have things figured out well in advance. At times it has been quite a downfall of mine and has probably caused more problems for me than I care to admit.
So the decision to move to Australia was a pretty big decision. And I had been planning on it for about a year. I was more planning on saving and figuring out what to do with all my stuff and all that business. As many times as I tried to sit down and figure out what I was going to do when I arrived, I just could not focus enough to even think about it and finally decided I was just going to wing it. See what happens when I arrive and go from there.
Well today, a plan came together (somewhat) as to what direction I am at least going to head in down here. I am going to be traveling with 3 of my new friends, Kally from England, Robert from Scotland and Alex from England. We start off our new adventure on February 9th leaving Sydney via Greyhound. Our first stop will be in Port MacQuarie where we will stay one night, then Byron Bay for 2 nights...possibly more. Then on to Brisbane, Port Hervey and finally end up in Bundaberg where we will start fruit picking and most importantly earning money!
I am completely stoked about this, its gonna be great! I have no idea how long we will stay up there and I am oddly enough okay with it.
After I am done fruit picking I am going to start WWOOF-ing, which stands for Willing Workers On Organic Farms. Basically its working 4 to 6 hours a day in exchange for free room and board. There are all kinds of organic farms to work on all over the country doing all kinds of different work. Some of these places are quite properly hippie and I think I just might love it! If you would like to check out the organization a bit more, here is the website: wwoof.com.au
Amazing stuff Dana! Looking forward to following your adventures, remember take lots of pictures and take notes.. but most importantly take it all in!
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud of you for taking this leap.
